IMAGINING ALICE

We all interpret things differently. For instance, if someone tells you to picture a man, what do you see? Is he young or old? Fat or skinny? Do you know him or is a stranger? What is the color of his eyes, his hair and his clothes? The answers to all of these questions depend on your own perspective. Your imaginary person will not look like the same person imagined by your best friend.

Artists and designers ask themselves the same kinds of questions when illustrating books and designing book covers. They follow the text the author has written, form a picture of the story in their mind and then make the characters come alive. Two illustrators working on the same story won't end up with the exact same picture.
